Blue Star Memorial Dedication
Clovis, New Mexico, November 9, 2008
The Legion Riders paraded over 2 dozen flags along the streets to announce the dedication site while riding their motorcycles. The General from Cannon Air force Base arrived in his Black Helicopter. Over 100 people attended the Ceremony including the two Mayors. Bess Kline, the Chairwoman, Welcomed everyone and introduced the dignitaries which included Past New Mexico Garden Club presidents, Mary Ann Moreno, Sally Warner, Donna Turney and present president, Colleen Hinker.
Presentation of Colors was by the ROTC, while the High School Band played appropriate music. Veterans of every war, plus a child in fatigues representing the future, were present to witness the dedication of this important memorial which is now located at the New Mexico Visitors Center on Highways 60-70-84, between Clovis and Texico, near the Texas Border. Local Businesses donated flowers and refreshments to the delight of everyone. Other contributors were the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion, VFW, and National Garden Clubs, and New Mexico State Garden Clubs, including district III. Flags and pins were handed out to represent the patriotism of all attending.
It was a beautiful day to honor all of our Military Services dedication to the freedom of our Country.
